Why We Travel: Building Memories, One Passport Stamp at a Time

Hello, I’m Mama Ice — welcome to our travel story.
Some families collect toys, we collect passport stamps and travel magnets. For me, motherhood has always been a journey — quite literally. My love for adventure began when I was little, thanks to my father, who never missed a chance to take us on road trips or spontaneous getaways. Those childhood adventures lit a spark in me that has never gone out.

When I became a mother, I knew I wanted to pass on that same love of travel to my children. Our first adventures with my son Max started small — road trips across Sarawak, stopping in little towns that felt new to us. Then came Bali, for his uncle’s wedding, where he received his very first passport stamp at just one year old. From that moment, we were hooked.
Not just a stay, but an experience — mornings by the durian farm.

Traveling with Kids in Europe: Paris, Italy & Switzerland
After the long pause of COVID-19, our 2022 trip to Europe felt like a deep breath of fresh air. It was more than a holiday; it was a way for our family to heal, reconnect with the world, and rediscover joy together.
✨ In Paris, Max was mesmerized by the Eiffel Tower sparkling at night. We shared buttery croissants at cafΓ©s and watched boats drift down the Seine.
✨ In Italy, he danced in the streets of Milan and savored his very first scoop of authentic gelato.
✨ And in Chamonix, Switzerland, he laughed through snowball fights, cheeks rosy from the cold, holding snow in his tiny hands with pure wonder.
That trip reminded me: traveling with kids isn’t a burden. It’s a gift. Each step wasn’t just sightseeing — it was watching my child grow before my eyes.

In December 2024, with our family now bigger, we decided to chase holiday magic together. From the days after Christmas through New Year’s Eve, we explored four countries in just ten days.
Yes, Max missed a few school days. But honestly? The world is our classroom.
We balanced work deadlines, school assignments, and baby routines. It wasn’t always easy — but it was always worth it. From twinkling Christmas markets to snowy train rides, we soaked up joy at every stop.
It was a reminder that while family travel can be messy and tiring, the memories outshine every challenge.

Why Family Travel Matters (Even with Busy Parents)
As working parents, life is full of deadlines, school runs, laundry, and routines. It’s tempting to say, “Maybe next year.” But I’ve learned — if we wait for the perfect moment, it may never come.
Traveling with kids teaches them patience, curiosity, and resilience. It teaches us, as parents, to slow down and see the world through their eyes. Some of my favorite travel memories aren’t grand at all — they’re the quiet ones:
πΊ Sharing snacks on the plane.
π Reading bedtime stories in unfamiliar hotel rooms.
π Laughing together over silly translation mistakes.
These are the stories that stay with us long after we return home.
Family Travel Destinations We’ve Explored Together

That’s more than many adults — but to him, it’s just life. He’s growing up with the understanding that the world is vast, beautiful, and worth exploring.
Tips for Parents Who Want to Travel with Kids
If you’re wondering whether to travel with your kids, here’s my advice: don’t wait for the “perfect” time. Don’t worry too much about missed classes, diaper bags, or disrupted routines.
Start small. Take a road trip. Explore a nearby city. Let your children discover the world through their own eyes. The bond you build on the road is unlike any other.
For us, travel isn’t a luxury. It’s a way to grow, connect, and understand the world together — one passport stamp at a time.
✈️ With love from the road,
